Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Clean Republic products different from other cleaning products?

Our main ingredient is hypochlorous acid (HOCl), a substance found naturally in the human body, and replicated by scientists by running an electrical charge through a combination of salt and water. This electro-chemical reaction reproduces hypochlorous acid within a solution now known as anolyte water. This has paved the way for a new generation of health, healing and cleanliness. It is nature at its purest, combined with proven science.

What is HOCl?

Hypochlorous Acid (HOCL) is a compound produced by the human body and is an integral part of immune response (inside the body). The HOCl in our body kills dangerous microorganisms as a antimicrobial making it equally effective against bacteria, viruses and fungi (outside the body).

How does HOCl work?

HOCl works to break down the cells that are creating an infection by destroying the cell membrane and its DNA, thus halting its replication or growth process. The human body produces HOCl to reverse markers of epidermal aging, protect against environmental aggressors and cleanse the skin. When utilized as an application outside the human body, PH-neutral HOCl solution works in much the same way.

Do your products contain fragrances? What do they smell like?

Our products do not contain any fragrances or essentials oils as this would destabilize our main ingredient. Our solutions have a very slight chlorine smell upon dispensing, but dissipates almost immediately.

Are you approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)?

Yes, our Disinfectant+Sanitizer is EPA approved as a hospital grade Disinfectant and Sanitizer. *Our All-Purpose Cleaner has not been registered through the EPA and as such is not considered to be a disinfectant or sanitizer.

Do your products kill Coronavirus?

Clean Republic Disinfectant+Sanitizer has demonstrated effectiveness against viruses similar to COVID-19 on hard, nonporous surfaces. Therefore, Clean Republic Disinfectant+Sanitizer can be used against COVID-19 when used in accordance with the directions for use against Norovirus and Rhinovirus type 16 on hard, non-porous surfaces. Refer to the CDC website at https://www.cdc.gov/ for additional information. **Please note our All-Purpose Cleaner is not registered with the EPA and thus does not make any specific kill claims. Learn more about our EPA stamp here

What types of surfaces can Clean Republic be used on?

The great thing about Clean Republic is that can be used on virtually any surface that needs to be cleaned. Our products work great on any tables or countertops, floors, yoga or gym mats, desks, laptops, cell phones, windows or walls. It's free of harsh chemicals and fumes and won't harm the skin.

Are there any hard surfaces that I have to be careful using HOCl on?

Over time, HOCl can be tough on certain metals such as steel, aluminum, silver or chipped enamel. To avoid any pitting or discoloration, we advise that you wipe these surfaces down after applying our solution. If you are soaking tools, we recommend soaking for 2-10min, rinse with water and then dry. When using the Clean Republic Disinfectant + Sanitizer, please refer to the respective contact times necessary for use against certain bacteria and viruses.

Are Clean Republic products a “diluted bleach solution”?

Absolutely not.  Clean Republic Products are actually very different than bleach.  Our main ingredient, hypochlorous acid, belongs to a different oxychlorine species that is not alike to sodium hypochlorite (also known as bleach).  Clean Republic product’s pH are in a neutral range that almost matches the pH of the dermal layer of humans. Bleach solution otherwise known as “Dakins Solution” is of a very high pH, are not shelf stable, and have to be used quickly to be an effective disinfectant.

What is the advantage of hypochlorous acid over traditional cleaners?

Most of the pathogens, particularly water born, when used over time, develop resistance to cleansers such as sodium hypochlorite (bleach). In comparison, anolyte application, as a water disinfectant, used on a daily basis over the course of ten years, demonstrated that no resistance was developed over time to pathogenic microorganisms. Hypochlorous acid is also free from harmful fumes.

Why is Clean Republic at a premium price point?

It is important to understand that our All-Purpose Cleaner is sold in a non-diluted form, therefore after diluted with 9 parts of water, the actual price of our cleaner goes down dramatically.  For example, when you make the purchase for one gallon of Clean Republic All-Purpose Cleaner at $88.00, after diluted with 9 parts of water, you are effectively buying a gallon for $8.80. In other words, when buying one of our products, you are getting 9 times worth of ready to use solution than what you paid for!

What is the difference between the All-Purpose Everyday Cleaner and the Disinfectant + Sanitizer?

Clean Republic produces two different products, our All-Purpose Everyday Cleaner and our Disinfectant + Sanitizer. Both products are created using the same main ingredient HOCl with different concentrations. The APC is formulated at 300ppm (parts per million) and created to clean daily to halt the spread of pathogens and clean surface debris. Our D+S is formulated at 500ppm is designed to kill pathogens including hard to kill viruses and bacteria most common in hospitals. The other difference is the shelf-life. Our D+S is an EPA hospital grade product and has a shelf life of 30 days. After the 30 days the solution becomes a sanitizer. Because of this, the D+S only comes in one commercial gallon size and is not intended for retail. Our APC has an 18 month shelf life and comes in 3 different sizes, gallon, 16oz and 3.4oz and is ideal for retailers.

What is the shelf life of Clean Republic products and where do I store it?

Clean Republic All-Purpose Cleaner currently has a shelf life of 18 months unopened, and 12 months after it's been opened. Clean Republic Disinfectant+Sanitizer is medical grade has a shelf life of 30 days as this is what hospitals require. After the 30 days the disinfectant becomes a sanitizer. Unlike other competitive cleaners, disinfectants and sanitizers, Clean Republic products use zero carcinogenic preservatives. Sanitizing is meant to reduce, not kill, the occurrence and growth of bacteria, viruses and fungi. Disinfecting a surface will “kill” the microscopic organisms.

Are Clean Republic products safe to use around children and pets?

Yes! Unlike the toxic threat posed by any other cleaners and disinfectants (often times loaded with carcinogens), Clean Republic is free of harmful chemicals and toxic fumes and is gentle enough to use around people, plants, pets and food prep surfaces.

Is your hand product a cleanser or sanitizer? What is the difference?

Our non-toxic Hand Cleanser is a cleanser not a sanitizer. It oxygenates your hands which has been proven to increase hydration and stimulate natural healing. It can be compared to washing your hands with soap. The main ingredient is HOCl, the infection fighting compound found in the human body. This compound is used to protect against toxins, help fight bacteria, and cleanse the skin. Unlike a traditional hand sanitizer our Hand Cleanser does not contain alcohol.

Know the difference between cleaning, disinfecting, and sanitizing -

Cleaning removes germs, dirt, and impurities from surfaces or objects. Cleaning works by using soap (or detergent) and water to physically remove germs from surfaces. This process does not necessarily kill germs, but by removing them, it lowers their numbers and the risk of spreading infection.

Disinfecting kills germs on surfaces or objects. Disinfecting works by using chemicals to kill germs on surfaces or objects. This process does not necessarily clean dirty surfaces or remove germs, but by killing germs on a surface after cleaning, it can further lower the risk of spreading infection.

Sanitizing lowers the number of germs on surfaces or objects to a safe level, as judged by public health standards or requirements. This process works by either cleaning or disinfecting surfaces or objects to lower the risk of spreading infection.
