GENERAL

What makes Clean Republic products different from other cleaning products?

Clean Republic abandons harsh chemicals and toxic fumes to produce a hypochlorous acid (HOCl) formula that cleans, sanitizes and disinfects surfaces from households to hospitals. Clean Republic products are not your typical cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting products. They are naturally derived, sustainable and eco-friendly. Yet, they are equally or even more effective than the more toxic products on the market. Clean Republic products don’t cause one issue while solving another.

What is HOCl?

Hypochlorous Acid (HOCl) is the infection fighting compound found naturally in human white blood cells. Inside of the body, HOCl works to fight off bacteria and viruses. This proprietary solution is replicated outside of the body by running an electrical charge through a combination of salt and water. The resulting electro-chemical reaction produces HOCl within a solution now known as anolyte water. This solution has paved the way for a new generation of health, healing and cleanliness.

How does HOCl work?

HOCl works to break down the cells that are creating an infection by destroying the cell membrane and its DNA, thus halting its replication or growth process. The human body produces HOCl to reverse markers of epidermal aging, protect against environmental aggressors and cleanse the skin. When utilized as an application outside the human body, a PH-neutral HOCl solution, like Clean Republic, works in much the same way.

Do your products contain fragrances? What do they smell like?

Our products do not contain any fragrances or essentials oils as this would destabilize our main ingredient, HOCl. Our solutions have a very slight chlorine smell upon dispensing, which dissipates almost immediately, but acts as a deodorizer.

Are you registered by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)?

Yes, the Clean Republic Disinfectant+Sanitizer is EPA registered (EPA Reg Number 85134-1-97177) as a hospital grade Disinfectant and Sanitizer. This product is also listed on the EPA’s List N, which lists the products registered for use against COVID-19. *Our All-Purpose Cleaner is not an EPA-registered product, and thus, this product is not intended to sanitize or disinfect.

What’s the difference between a cleaner and a disinfectant?

Cleaners are not registered with the EPA and cannot make public health claims on their label such as killing germs or having any anti-microbial action.

Do your products kill Coronavirus?

Clean Republic Disinfectant+Sanitizer has demonstrated effectiveness against viruses similar to COVID-19 on hard, nonporous surfaces. Therefore, Clean Republic Disinfectant+Sanitizer can be used against COVID-19 when used in accordance with the directions for use against Norovirus and Rhinovirus type 16 on hard, non-porous surfaces. Refer to the CDC website at https://www.cdc.gov/ for additional information. This product is also listed on the EPA’s List N, which lists the products registered for use against COVID-19. *Please note our All-Purpose Cleaner is not registered with the EPA and thus does not make any specific kill claims. Learn more about our EPA stamp here.

What types of surfaces can Clean Republic be used on?

The great thing about Clean Republic is that it can be used on virtually any hard surface that needs to be cleaned. Our products work great on any tables or countertops, floors, yoga or gym mats, desks, laptops, cell phones, windows or walls. It's free of harsh chemicals and fumes and won't harm the skin.

Are there any hard surfaces that I have to be careful using HOCl on?

Over time, HOCl can be tough on certain metals such as untreated steel, aluminum, silver or chipped enamel. To avoid any pitting or discoloration, we advise that you wipe these surfaces down after applying our solution. If you are soaking tools, we recommend soaking for 2-10min, rinse with water and then dry. When using the Clean Republic Disinfectant + Sanitizer, please refer to the respective contact times necessary for use against certain bacteria and viruses.

Are Clean Republic products a “diluted bleach solution”?

Absolutely not. Clean Republic Products are actually very different from bleach. Our main ingredient, hypochlorous acid, belongs to a different oxychlorine species that is not alike to sodium hypochlorite (also known as bleach). Clean Republic product’s pH are in a neutral range that almost matches the pH of the dermal layer of humans. Bleach solution, otherwise known as “Dakins Solution,” is of a very high pH, is not shelf stable, and has to be used quickly to be an effective disinfectant.

As a disinfectant, what is the advantage of hypochlorous acid over traditional cleaners?

Most of the pathogens, particularly water born, when used over time, develop resistance to disinfectants such as sodium hypochlorite (bleach). In comparison, anolyte application, as a water disinfectant, used on a daily basis over the course of ten years demonstrated that no resistance was developed over time to pathogenic microorganisms. HOCl is also free from harmful fumes and has a neutral pH.

Is the Clean Republic certified for organic use?

Yes. The Clean Republic Disinfectant + Sanitizer is OMRI listed and is certified for organic use.

What is the difference between the All-Purpose Everyday Cleaner and the Disinfectant + Sanitizer?

Clean Republic’s All-Purpose Cleaner (APC) and Disinfectant + Sanitizer (D+S) are both created using the same main ingredient, hypochlorous acid, but with different concentrations and for different uses. The APC contains 100ppm (parts per million) of HOCl, and was formulated with households in mind. The APC was designed for everyday cleaning, and to keep surfaces free of debris, an important step in the cleaning process. The D+S is manufactured at a much higher concentration of HOCl, and is EPA registered for use against several serious drug-resistant pathogens.

What is the shelf life of Clean Republic products and where do I store it?

Unlike other competitive cleaners, disinfectants and sanitizers, Clean Republic products use zero carcinogenic preservatives. Our Disinfectant+Sanitizer is best used within 6 months as a disinfectant, after which a slow reduction in ppm of Free Active Chlorine begins. Additionally, the product can be used as a powerful sanitizer, when diluted to 200 ppms, for 12 months. Our APC has an 18 month shelf life (12 month once opened) and comes in 3 different sizes: gallon, 16oz and 3.4oz. We recommend storing all of our products in a dark and cool place out of direct sunlight. Storage temperature should not be less than 40 degrees Fahrenheit or over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

Are Clean Republic products safe to use around children and pets?

Our products should always be used in a fashion consistent with the directions on our label. However, unlike the threat posed by many other cleaners and disinfectants (oftentimes loaded with carcinogens), Clean Republic is free of dangerous synthetic chemicals and toxic fumes and is gentle enough to use around people, plants, pets and food prep surfaces (listed OMRI organic). Please see the EPA’s recommendation for “Choosing Safe Products to Clean and Sanitizer Your Home” HERE.

Know the difference between cleaning, disinfecting, and sanitizing?

Cleaning removes germs, dirt, and impurities from surfaces or objects. Cleaning works by using soap (or detergent) and water to physically remove germs from surfaces. This process does not necessarily kill germs, but by removing them, it lowers their numbers and the risk of spreading infection.

Disinfecting kills germs on surfaces or objects. Disinfecting works by using chemicals to kill germs on surfaces or objects. This process does not necessarily clean dirty surfaces or remove germs, but by killing germs on a surface after cleaning, it can further lower the risk of spreading infection.

Sanitizing lowers the number of germs on surfaces or objects to a safe level, as judged by public health standards or requirements. This process works by either cleaning or disinfecting surfaces or objects to lower the risk of spreading infection.

DISINFECTANT + SANITIZER

I see that the Disinfectant + Sanitizer is used in schools and hospitals, but can I use it at home?

Yes. Clean Republic is an excellent disinfectant to use in homes. Some of the best places to use it at home are in bathrooms, high-contact surfaces, and in the kitchen to keep food-contact surfaces clean.

With so many Disinfectants + Sanitizers on the market, why should I choose Clean Republic?

The easiest way to answer this question is simply, not all disinfectants are created equal. When evaluating and comparing disinfectant products, take a close look at their core ingredients. Clean Republic uses a unique chemical compound called hypochlorous acid. While other competitors and manufacturers have attempted to copy and produce a form of stabilized hypochlorous acid similar to Clean Republic, our revolutionary formula is simply unequaled. Hypochlorous acid was used in WWI for wound cleaning, in restaurants for food prep surfaces, and more recently to kill MRSA in schools and CDIFF hospitals. Also consider carefully what kind of chemicals you want around your children, employees, patients, students, and close family members. Most disinfectants on the market are extremely toxic, but Clean Republic Disinfectant + Sanitizer gives you peace of mind that you are using an effective product that does not come with alarming safety warnings and precautions.

What’s the difference between a Disinfectant and a Cleaner?

Cleaners are not registered with the EPA and cannot make public health claims on their label such as killing germs or having any anti-microbial action.

What is a Hospital Disinfectant?

As part of the EPA registration process, disinfectant products are put through rigorous testing to prove their efficacy and measure toxicity. The EPA registers three types of disinfectants: Limited, General, and Hospital. All three disinfectants destroy or irreversibly inactivate certain microorganisms on hard, inanimate surfaces and objects.
You can determine a “limited,” “general,” or “hospital” disinfectant by the microorganisms listed on the label.

Limited must be supported by efficacy testing against either Salmonella cholerasuis or Staphylococcus aureus. Limited disinfectants are found mostly in household use.

General must be supported by efficacy testing against both Salmonella cholerasuis and Staphylococcus aureus. General disinfectants are used in commercial areas.

Hospital must be supported by AOAC Use Dilution or AOAC Germicidal Spray efficacy testing against Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella cholerasuis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa hides behind biofilm and is difficult to eliminate. Killing this bacterium is required for “Hospital Disinfectant”.

Also, as part of this evaluation process, products are assigned to a toxicity category:  The categories range from category 1 (highly toxic) to category 4 (no exposure warnings required on the label). Clean Republic Disinfectant + Sanitizer received an EPA category 4 rating for all exposure routes with the exception of eye irritation if direct contact is made.

What is a Sanitizer?

A substance, or mixture of substances, intended to reduce the number of microorganisms on inanimate surfaces or in water or air (FIFRA § 4(i)(4)(C)(i)).

Can this product be used as a produce wash?

Clean Republic is OMRI Listed, with restrictions, meaning it may be used in certified organic production or food processing and handling according to the USDA National Organic Program regulations.

Restrictions: May be used in direct contact with post-harvest crop or food at levels approved by the FDA or the EPA for such a purpose. Such use must include a final rinse and residual chlorine levels in final rinse water shall not exceed the Maximum Residual Disinfectant Limit under the Safe Drinking Water Act, except that a final rinse is not required for use in FSIS inspected egg breaking facilities. When used as disinfectants and sanitizers for food contact surfaces, may be used up to maximum labeled rates and rinsing is not required unless mandated by the label use directions. May be used up to maximum labeled rates for disinfecting and sanitizing equipment or tools. No intervening event is necessary before equipment is used in organic production.

Can I clean and Disinfect at the same time?

In some cases, you can clean and disinfect at the same time, but this depends on how dirty the surfaces you are cleaning/disinfecting are—the dirtier the surface the less effective the disinfectant. Disinfectants need to contact the area to disinfect and cannot do this effectively with a barrier of dirt or grime in the way. Once the dirt has been wiped away the disinfectant can get to work. Under lightly soiled conditions, you can clean and disinfect in the same step with just Clean Republic Disinfectant + Sanitizer. (NOTE: EPA requires all disinfectants carry the following label direction: “For heavily soiled areas, a pre-cleaning step is required.”)

ALL-PURPOSE CLEANER (Gallon)

What’s the difference between a Disinfectant and a Cleaner?

Cleaners are not registered with the EPA and cannot make public health claims on their label such as killing germs or having any anti-microbial action.

Why should I use a cleaner if I have a disinfectant?

Why is this product so much cheaper than it used to be?

It’s important to note that our All-Purpose Cleaner used to be a concentrate. The product was formulated at 300 ppms and could create 10 gallons of cleaner. We have recently reformulated this product to contain 100 ppms of HOCl, which means it is no longer a concentrate.

Why is this product at 100 ppms while the APC gallon used to be diluted to 30 ppms?

It’s important to remember that we created this product for at home use before COVID-19 hit, and we wanted to provide an All-Purpose Cleaner for any surface kind. Therefore, 30 PPMs was suggested for any low-touch surfaces, while the gallon of APC could be diluted to any strength desired - we recommend 100 PPMs for high-touch surfaces.

Can this be used as a produce wash?

We are currently in the process of registering with the FDA.

Which surfaces can I use this product on?

Our APC can be used on almost any surface: tables, chairs, cabinets, cribs, high chairs, changing tables, swings and more, without damaging finishes or fabrics. Plush, plastic or wooden toys, book covers for babies, and chew toys for pets. Clothing, towels, cloth diapers, and bibs, to deodorize.

Do I need to wipe this product after spraying?

You do not - just spray and go.

Is this product safe to use around my kids, pets, and plants?

Yes, Clean Republic products are made by applying a low electric charge to a combination of salt and water. The combination of these ingredients creates Hypochlorous Acid, which is a chemical compound naturally produced by the human body as part of our immune response. These products are all-natural, and do not contain any carcinogens or harmful synthetic chemicals.
